Looking back through the software documentation, it looks like it does support USB, but requires a configuration file for each printer and connection method, and they support a fairly limited number of printers mine only using serial. I am pushing back on our vendor to get a config file for the USB connection, and if that fails, I am just going to order a serial add on card and a usb to serial adapter to test, then order a dozen of which ever one works best or is easier..
Hmmmm, that might be an artifact from a piece of software that sort of-kind of did usb to serial translation but required writing your own drivers The software can support parallel, but has a default list of devices, and what is supported is pre-defined for each device.
And all the ones that should be compatiable only list serial. I'm thinking that there isn't going to be any easy alternative. I just hate the idea of hardware fixes for software problems.
