The SJD in International Legal Studies is designed to provide in-depth coverage of specialized areas of international and comparative law. Graduates of our SJD program are renowned legal scholars and academics that hold faculty and government positions across the globe. The Admissions Committee reviews applications to the law school holistically, considering all information provided by each applicant.
To receive consideration by the Admissions Committee, applicants must submit their applications by the posted deadline. Applications may be accepted after the posted deadline and are reviewed on a space-available basis. Foreign-educated students must submit their official transcripts to LSAC for evaluation.
The Doctor of Juridical Science S. It is designed for highly qualified, independent students who wish to pursue an extended program of research under the supervision of a faculty member, leading to the submission of a dissertation that makes an original and substantial contribution to legal scholarship. Others have pursued careers in international organizations, governments and private practice worldwide. The Graduate Committee also considers applications from students who have received, or will receive at the end of the academic year during which they apply, the LL.

Based on her previous work and future professional interest, her research will examine the use of adaptive regulation principles in areas of law related to the environment and climate change.
In her first SJD year, she enrolls in courses totaling a minimum of twelve credits related to risk regulation, energy, and quantitative research. She also develops a reading list and prepares for her qualifying exam, to be administered in the following academic year. Once she passes the qualifying exam, she will submit a detailed dissertation proposal and then research and write her dissertation, earning an additional twelve SJD dissertation research and writing credits.
